Navigating the 2014 Festival Program

The excitement has been building at the BWF office for months. After countless meetings, late nights, and even a 3am trip to the printers, our 2014 Festival program is finally out!

And today, we’re going to take you on a tour of the program to help you navigate your way around it.

1. Getting Your Hands on the Print Program

You can get a beautiful, full-colour copy of our totally awesome program in today’s Courier-Mail. Or, you can grab a copy at various locations across Brisbane in the weeks to follow.

2. Plan Your Strategy

To make the most out of your festival experience, it helps to think ahead. Are you looking to spend just a day or two enjoying your favourite authors? Or are you as excited as we are to enjoy all five days of this literary feast?

The first step is to grab your pen or highlighter and circle every event you might be interested in. Don’t forget to check out the BWF in the ‘Burbs section on the back of the second page, as well as BWF at the University of Queensland section on the third page.

The next step depends on whether you are left-brain or right-brain dominant: Our more relaxed readers might just browse the program website and click on ticketing links for those events they like. On the other hand, the super-organised among you might like to create an outline of events and times, including plenty of ‘Plan Bs’ in case any events sell out before you get a chance to book a spot.

Or, if you like living dangerously, just come on down to the Festival 3-7 Sept between 9am & 5pm and buy whichever tickets are still available. And don’t forget that we offer plenty of free events and entertainment to boot!

Make sure you take note of the different festival venues. Bear in mind that while most events take place in and around the Cultural Precinct, we are also holding special events at Brisbane City Hall, various libraries across Brisbane, and at UQ and QUT. So you may find it helpful to factor in the time it takes to get from one venue to the next.

And as you work your way through our breathtaking array of events in this year’s program, be sure to schedule in time for breaks on the days you attend. In addition to kiosks located near many of our venues, our Festival Club on Maiwar Green will be selling refreshments from noon until late. So feel free to have a seat, relax, and tell the social media world how much you are loving the Festival!

4. Book Your Place & Buy Tickets

Free Events: The Brisbane Writers Festival offers both free and ticketed events. Some free events require you to book a place, and this will be noted in the program listings.

Ticketed Events: After you’ve decided which events you want to attend, the next step is to secure your place by purchasing your tickets. Although tickets may be purchased on the day at our BWF Box Office at the State Library, we highly recommend snagging yours ahead of time by clicking here to book online—many events sell out very quickly!
